Two Years In April
Production Designer | Short Film | Liberty Tate Walker
Two Years In April is about a Moroccan girl in Wales at the turn of the 16th century and follows the Royal Court through two years. Our directors focus when planning this film was based around the misrepresentation/lack of representation of Black Tudors and how their history, especially in England, was completely overlooked.
This project is one of the more ambitious ventures from the early stages of my career. Two Years was filmed shortly after COVID restrictions were lifted, which meant we had to work with a reduced crew—a significant challenge, especially for organising the art department. It was crucial to ensure that the quality of the film didn’t suffer despite the limitations on how the cast and crew could interact.
This experience fuelled my passion for organisation and greatly deepened my knowledge of historical and fashion research. The film was created with a small crew, but it was driven by immense dedication and love from everyone involved. We explored the histories of Morocco, Spain, and England to ensure each character was authentically portrayed, and the team came together to bring this multifaceted story to life.
In 2023, we shot a few additional scenes to complete the narrative, so I’m thrilled to soon be able to share even more content upon its release.
