The Door That Isn’t There

Production Designer | Short Film | FrenchClapper Films

The Door That Isn’t There has been one of the most intriguing challenges, as I faced was the task of crafting an ominous monster that took the form of a door—an unconventional concept that pushed the boundaries of traditional creature design. The door, being a character in its own right, required meticulous attention to detail in its creation.

The door appeared in both the protagonist's home and an empty void, requiring innovative solutions to maintain consistency and believability. Designing the set posed its own set of fascinating challenges. As the monster itself generated the environment, I aimed to imbue it with a subtle sense of unease, hinting at something not quite right. Employing a bold and present palette, along with block shapes and the signature green colour the door projects to convey the growing presence of the monster throughout the film.
